The Way I Think

Kirk Franklin has a new song called, Love Theory. It has a very catchy, uplifting beat and a very simple message: “I don’t wanna love nobody but You.” And the “you” here is God. [Side note: For all the naysayers who feel that Kirk is hypocritical, the book of Esther does not mention G-d.]

This song title made me think, what is the theory of love? So my thoughts led me to the definition of theory: a supposition or system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained (per Google).

Then I began to think, Is love a theory? The system of ideas that have been given to explain love, for me, is found in 1 Corinthians 13: love is patient, kind, forgiving, not proud, unselfish, not easily provoked, not evil, bears the truth, bears all things, believes all things, endures all things and never fails. But this whole system of beliefs is God because God is love. So going back to the song reference, God is throughout that song because God is love. The Love Theory is a God Theory.

Maybe this is one of the few reasons why I love Valentine’s Day? We were made in the image and likeness of God. God is love. Love is God. To love is be like God. How simple yet powerful is that?!?

Love is a person, an expression, a feeling, an action, a word, a notion, an all-encompassing person, place, and thing. It is meant to be said, felt, given, acted upon, and just be.

Give Love. Get Love.

  1. Look at WE finally letting lose. Keep putting pen to paper and quit holding back. You’re a giver in so many ways, but you keep your literary talents shrouded. It’s pieces like this that keeps me falling in Love with being in Love!
